Garth saw the A2B Metro on the Gadget Show last year and its been true love since. “My knowledge of electric bikes was limited, so I started to research this bike and others” said Garth.
Garth added: “There was a variety of electric bikes on offer, some at a lower price point; however I kept coming back to the A2B range. Its build quality and looks made it stand out from the rest, so I ordered one and had it shipped across to Northern Ireland.”
“I reckon I must be the first one in NI as everywhere I go I get people stopping me for a chat and asking me where I got it. It makes you feel like a bit of a celebrity!”
“Out on the bike for the first time I must admit I was a little nervous, but even with its weight it felt very light, well balanced and easy to manoeuvre. Even around town on short journeys it is so easy to use. I have now had the bike for just under a year and the only down side was the back mud guard breaking, however I contacted Ultramotor who informed me they were aware of the problem and they sent me out a new updated mudguard which seems to have done the job!”
“On one charge with the rear battery I get about 20 miles which is enough for me get to the Dive centre fully laden with equipment. Even when full loaded the bike’s powerful motor has great torque for steep hills..”
“In my opinion the A2B is a very well built machine that will last me a very long time. Its also a great deal of fun whilst also being practical.”

I’d been looking into getting some kind of electric transport for a while. It started after I’d seen a variety of crude ‘experiments’ involving mountain bikes and electric motors. Most of them needed a rucsack to carry the batteries around in – a bit of a deal-breaker for me…
Then, after fishing around on Google Images, I saw this silver apparition – not unlike a BMX on steroids – and immediately I knew I had to have one. From ordering to delivery took three days and when it arrived, well, if I had a tail, I’d have wagged it until it fell off!
That was just the start. You do have to ‘learn’ how to ride the Ultra Motor. Yes, it’s a bike with gears and an electric motor, but the more you ride it, the more of a revelation it becomes. I live on the top of a hill, so the advantage of electric assistance became immediately apparent. And then the joys of gliding along on the flat without pedalling – could it get any better?
Yes, it bloody well can…
I’d been round at a mate’s house one evening and eventually it came to the time to cycle up the hill. But instead of gently pedalling up the track, I decided to pedal hell for leather with the off-road button engaged – an experiment if you will.
F***ing hell! I have never pedalled up the hill so fast in my life.
In summary, it was the closest I’ll get to the feeling of being Bionic – except I didn’t cost six million dollars, and neither did the bike.
All this and it’s good for the planet too?
Tasty…

I ride my A2B Metro to work (3 miles one way). It is so much fun and I feel great as I zip past the lines of car traffic that I once had to wait in. So far it works perfectly and I get to work feeling refreshed but not exhausted. (The commute to work is all uphill.) I charge my bike in my garage where my car used to sit. (Got rid of it.) I wish the extra battery was not so expensive or I would get one.
The bike causes a great deal of interest and comment as you ride, so be prepared for that. One thing that you should know before you buy is that this is not really a bike. It is very heavy. It would be pretty difficult to go very far without the assistance of the motor. However, sometimes I resist the urge to use the assistance and get a good work out for awhile. It is very comfortable to ride and has great suspension. It really is a lot of fun.
I wish I knew where to buy the baskets for the back...I can't find any information on that. Give it a test drive before you buy and then you will know if it is what you are looking for.

I first saw a picture of the Metro A to B advertised in a national newspaper here in the UK. I have always wanted an electric bike but i've never been impressed with the bulky old style batteries fitted to them. When i saw the Metro i simply had to buy one. The metro offered a purpose built machine with a modern Lithium lightweight battery. The build quality is impressive throughout and its really well designed. When i first pedalled her along the road she initially felt a little cumbersome and i was nervous to press the power button. As soon as i did, then all was forgotten because sheproved to bea very sturdy and stable bike. The speed is impressive and the range is far beyond what i would ever do on my old pedal bike. I bought a spare battery but never hadthe need touse it. The ony problemi have with the Metro is that whenever people see it they will want to come and admire it!

My criteria for choosing an electric bike:
•It must get me to work and back (26-28 miles round trip) without the need to charge at work.
•It needs to continue doing that as the batteries get older.
•It needs to do that in all weather conditions
•It must get me there no slower than I can get there under my own steam (45 minutes each way)
•I must arrive at work in my work clothes – not needing a shower.
I had pretty much come to the conclusion that only one of the more exotic Heinzman systems would satisfy my requirements until I test rode the A2B Metro. I had seen it in the line-up at electricbikesales.co.uk but had almost discounted it because of it’s looks. But a 10 minute test ride around Cambridge was all it took to change my mind.
This is a serious piece of equipment and with the second battery installed in the frame satisfies all of my criteria. You have to forget about the traditional cyclist’s obsession with weight and just go with the flow. The motor makes you feel like you are pedaling down a gentle never ending hill so the weight is no disadvantage.
Don’t buy this bike if you are the shy and retiring type – trust me – you will get attention. And although you do get from AtoB quickly, you will spend any time you have saved telling people all about it. About 30 people have tried my machine (it’s easier to let them have a go than try to explain why a fit cyclist might want electric assist) and every one has brought it back with a huge grin on their face.
My commute is now about 40 minutes each way and I can just about do the 26 mile round trip on a single charge of a single battery.
Wouldn’t recommend risking it if you didn’t have a second battery ready to go as it’s hard work to pedal unassisted.
It's the new way to travel in style. An effortless
Boosts your pedal power when you need it most - change pace at the push of a button with motor-enhanced speeds of up to 15mph.
Electric bikes are regulated to 15.5mph and the A2B range’s motor will cease at this speed.
