Electric Bike Sales Set to Shift Up a Gear

Mark Loveridge, founder of the British Electric Bicycle Association and UK sales director of Ultra Motor, predicts that sales of the bikes, which cost from £650 to £4,000, could reach 30,000 next year.

Police in the Royal Parks have been using electric bikes fitted with blue lights and sirens and West Midlands police are placing an order for four bikes with manufacturer Urban Mover.

An increase in the number of free charging points will encourage usage.  'I predict the UK will hit 30,000 units quite comfortably in 2010. The market is growing at an incomprehendable rate, we are in very exciting times,' says Loveridge.
