Electric bikes are not a new invention, but until recently they just haven't been a wise investment. Now, though, with newer lithium ion batteries available, we're finally starting to see electric bikes that can go at a decent speed for long enough to be practical – and then recharge quickly.
With motoring costs constantly on the rise and the need for exercise ever clearer, there's never been a better time to consider an electric bike. Electric bikes don't require number plates, insurance, tax or MOTs and cost very little to run.
As far as exercise is concerned, an electric bike seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but often the greatest hindrance to exercise is the willpower to start it. Knowing you have a motor to carry you home if you peak too early is a great incentive to get off the sofa and onto a bike.
